Getting started

We are ready to use Raindrops. Just start typing into the editor box. To create any formatting, highlight the line and select one of the options.

Text Formatting

Select a piece of text, and you will get a formatting bar to use various options like bold, italic, underline, highlight etc.

3
  1. Header 1
  2. Header 2
  3. Box
  4. Blockquote
  5. Pre-formatted Text
  6. Add a link

The most interesting in this list is the box. It allows you to place the content where you want, with a font of your choosing, with a size of your liking. Since it is so customizable, it is easy to get things wrong. Choose your fonts size carefully. It should be large with photo backgrounds and small with running text.

We will explore box next.

raindrops

When you select a para or a block of text, you will get a formatting bar with header options, box, quote etc.

4

Once you have selected the text you want to place in a box (it has to be a paragraph or a text block), click on the 'box' icon.

You will have an overlay with the contents placed in a box, with the drag icon.

Drag to extend the box. And move the box to position it appropriately.

Adjust the parameters to set a color of your choice, text-family, font size, alignment etc.

Box

Box allows you to create a rectangular region within which to put your content. This is a very powerful feature allowing you to customize the page in varied ways.

5

We have a few standard layouts for you to use. This allows you to use boxes without having to define them each time.

Click on 'Layout' to see the options.

Choose a layout. It will come up in the edit panel. You can then add the content or change the image you wish to.

In the dialog box, you can type or paste a link to the image.

Or use the 'upload image' feature to upload an image from your desktop. Please note that the image gets uploaded to imgur automatically and you get its imgur URL in the dialog box.

To keep things simple, we have given you 3 variations in size; Large, Medium, or Small. You can also choose one of the three positions; Default, Left, or Right Aligned image.

Media

You can include images (from imgur), sound clips (from soundcloud), video clips (from youtube), or embed a raindrop.

7

Background Image

You can set a background image for the whole page. Once you place an image in the raindrop, you can select it and click on the background option in the selection toolbar.

Alternatively , you can paste a link to an image into the editor, select it, and align it as per your choice. You can choose to align it to the left, right, or inline.

An even simpler way is to copy an image to the system's clipboard. Then place the cursor where you want to insert the image and type Ctrl+V. Wait for a few seconds (depending on your bandwidth) for magic to happen.

Soundcloud and Youtube

Exactly the same procedure works for links to Soundcloud and Youtube.

Here is an example with a soundcloud link. When the options come up, select any of the five options (the first option allows you to hyperlink instead of embedding the audio.)

In the case of youtube, you also get to choose the interval of time.

Here, I have used the INSERT to get into the menu, which allows me to choose the time interval.

Links

To create an inline link , select the text you want to link, and click on the 'link' icon. You will get a dialog box to enter the link.

Here is an example of a nicely designed website!

Alternatively, you can paste the link, select it and add a description.
12

Start searching for the raindrop user you would like to collaborate with, and add them to the list of collaborators. Both will find this raindrop under my collaborations tab. You can remove the collaborator at any point of time by clicking on delte ('x') icon against the name of the collaborator.

When the raindrop is viewed, all the collaborators are listed as co-authors.

The permission to delete a raindrop remains with the owner.

Collaborators

You can use collaborate to add co-authors for your raindrop.

Making presentations

Boxes are obviously the way to go. If you have already created a layout of your own, you can replicate it by simply pressing the DUP button. This duplicates the current page to append it at the end.

Sometimes, you may want to show only a few lines of a page at a time and then show a few more. To allow for this, you can intercede a slide with many pause statements which behave like a pseudo page separator.

Here is an example.

Please note that pause can be used within a box too. That means, you can use pause to reveal content of a box in phases. Or, you can use it between 2 boxes.

Doodle

You can create simple drawings using doodle.

Once the drawing is complete, press the Get Image URL to get a URL, and use it like any other image in the editor. The images are available in right on the clipboard. They are also made available in the RECENT images in the editor tab. Note that there is a limit on the number of images available in RECENT Images.

To start doodling, choose the size and background color of your drawing canvas, and start creating the doodle. The basic shapes - line, rectangle, oval are available at the top of the doodling area. You can shift to the default mode of free handwriting once you finish using the basic shapes.

Note: For drawing a perfect square, you can use the rectangle icon, and then use shift to draw a square. The same applies for horizontal lines, vertical lines, lines at 45 degrees, and circles.

17

To start a new doodle, you can use the clear to clear the screen and start afresh.

For progressive drawings, you can use the copy to capture the screen. To re-use it later, you can click on it in the clipboard on the right and then start drawing from that point.

Note that the images on the clipboard are available only for that session.

18

raindrops

You can also upload an image, and use it to create a doodle. To upload an image to doodle, click on insert button highlighted below.

A dialog box will open up to choose an image on your computer.

Here is a sample image to see what you can create with doodle.

Miscellaneous

1 . The raindrop is saved after every 10 seconds. You should see the saved status message next to the logo every 10 seconds.

2 . Occasionally, you may want to start a new paragraph on a fresh line instead of wrapping it around an image (or any other floating object). In this case type '***' on a new line and then enter your text in subsequent lines; it clears the floats.

3 . Sometime in math mode, things may not seem to work because you may have failed to escape backslashes. For example, use '\\' instead of '\' to indicate new line in an equation array.
